'Then followed that beautiful season, summer...'
Guests from Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, China and the United States enjoyed the hospitality of Glen Aros during the holiday season, and were most complimentary about the food, service and ambience of our country estate. Swimming in the heated pool and relaxing in the spa, strolling in the gardens, enjoying the sunset and a glass of wine on the veranda, then partaking of Nigel’s wonderful cuisine all add up to make a very special vacation. Our guests from San Francisco said, ‘Glen Aros was easily the highlight of our trip. Meg, Nigel and Rob were wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home. The entire experience, from the food and service to the accommodations and grounds, was absolutely perfect.’ |

Last November a local group of car enthusiasts, “The Petrol Heads” concluded their monthly outing with a function at Glen Aros and their wide ranging selection of vehicles was a great spectacle amongst our summer gardens. Congratulations to Rush Munro’s, Hastings based and the country’s longest established ice cream maker, for their clean sweep for all their entries in the premium category of the industry awards. Visitors can enjoy the many flavours of this best-tasting ice cream at the Gardens on Heretaunga Street West in Hastings or at the new parlour in Ahuriri, Napier. |
In wine news, a recent article in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate by the renowned wine judge Lisa Perroti-Brown noted that the Hawke’s Bay region in particular, is now beginning to produce more complex, age-worthy wines compared with the leaner, greener examples coming out of the area ten years ago. She comments that noteworthy wines are the Bordeaux blends and Syrahs from the Gimblett Gravels sub-region and also says that Chardonnays from the area are ‘very exciting’. If you’re looking for a special gift, take a trip to Birdwoods Gallery at 298 Middle Road in Havelock North where you’ll find an eclectic range of silver jewellery, textiles and unique homewares as well as an extensive collection of sculptures and other art works. You might also like to pop into the little Sweet Shop next door for an old-fashioned sweet shop experience or enjoy tea and coffee service on the terrace in a picturesque setting overlooking the sculpture garden. We have a full house over the weekend of the Mission Concert on February 25th, where Rod Stewart will again be the featured artist. We look forward to our guests enjoying not only the concert but the wonderful facilities at Glen Aros – the heated swimming pool and spa, petanque court, games room with full size billiard table and the well equipped exercise room, not to mention luxury accommodation and gourmet meals. |
